Moodboard

“Think of my moodboard as a scrapbook filled with little pieces of me gathered over time. A peek inside my artist’s sketchbook and my writer’s journal. Creativity in the raw.” - AJ Schultz

I’m in Edna mode

While I was shopping for my giant glasses, I asked friends for their opinions. Both LOVE and HATE flooded in. I chose love and bought them, and I'm telling you, there IS something about these glasses.

EDNA MODE

There’s something about these glasses.

In Disney-Pixar’s The Incredibles (2004), Edna Mode is a fabulously kooky and intensely talented fashion designer with a very particular skill set. When Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl came out of retirement to save the world (again), who did they call? Edna. Wielding her signature combination of design, science, technology, and engineering, only Edna could create costumes incredible enough to withstand the supernatural trials that come along with superheroism.

Everything about her personal aesthetic—from her glasses and hairstyle to her wardrobe and wit—evokes her fundamental truth as described by Brad Bird, her creator. Edna has "never experienced doubt in her life.”

Are we sure it wasn’t Edna who had the superpowers?

For the first time in my life, I own two pair of glasses. My second pair are my Edna glasses (as I like to call them), which I only wear on certain occasions when my outfit is worthy and my mood is right. I put them on, and I become more than embellished. I’m a vibe. When I’m looking out through their cartoonishly gigantic frames, I love the reference they’re making that not everybody gets. No doubts. All Edna.

If you know about my book Mumentous, you’ll understand my meaning when I say my Edna glasses are my 2024 Texas homecoming mum. Who would have thought they’d ever get so big? Like a mum, I wear them to consecrate this season in my life. I’m in my Edna mode.

Years from now, I’ll look back at photos of me in my Edna Mode glasses and laugh, but I’ll also remember the superpowers I had back in 2024 and marvel at how small they seem by future-me standards. Edna wouldn’t have it any other way, because she never stops creating and never stops believing and never stops evolving into an even more fabulous version of herself.
