What's in a name(tag)?
Before launching my own studio practice, I had a corporate nametag I rarely remembered to wear (right, Amber?) This week, the staff at the Arlington Museum of Art gave me a new nametag and I couldn't be more happy.
The reason may not be the one you think. Yes, I'm so honored to play this temporary role for a place whose mission I deeply believe in. But when you're an artist, and much of your work is done in isolation, it's a pretty amazing feeling when a group of good people say, "Welcome to the team."
Here's to the rare and truly great teams -- past and present, formal and informal -- whose rising tides help lift so many boats, including mine. Here's to the leaders of those teams -- like Jayne, Jerry, Peggy, Tony and Jim -- who lead by example.
